This year marks the 20th anniversary of the debut album by the grunge band Nirvana who became hugely popular before the tragic death of lead singer Kurt Cobain. So why were the trio so successful and did they really want all of the fame that they received from Nevermind.
The only members that were in the band from the start were Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain as they formed Nirvana in 1987. Nirvana would have a long lasting problem with the drummers going through many with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) being the longest lasting one from 1990 until the bands demise.
The first song that was released under the official name Nirvana was Love Buzz in 1988 and the first album Bleach was not released until the following year which was highly influenced by The Melvins. Cobain changed his writing style from the anger of bleach to the commercial success that was Nevermind because he was happier with his life.
Kurt didnt like the fame as it meant he had to play for fans that hated him in his childhood and this actually really upset him.
After the tragic suicide Cobain and Nirvana still remain one of the best bands ever to come into the world and all that can be said is that it was a great shame it had to end so soon.
If they were around today it is difficult to say if they would be into the newer instruments like electronic drum kits but one thing is for certain the way in which they played their guitars would not have changed and the brilliant music would have carried on.
Try the Gibson 355 for a really good guitar experience and as a final point, Nirvana were behind the whole music genre of grunge so let us not forget it!
