Travelling is many people’s greatest passion and regardless of how much of a priority it is in one’s life, most people agree it is a great thing to do. Real travel fanatics though take it so seriously that can start making their plans well in advance as they travelling is not just an ordinary holiday but a whole way of living.

Some for instance, will start getting ready a few years in advance by attending regular foreign language classes so they will feel comfortable visiting a country where English is not spoken. Especially travellers that will be involved in extreme physical activities such as climbing, diving or just hiking, being fit is very essential and they will start training long time before their departure. Being vaccinated is also another common part of the overall preparations as being in a very different environment can cause some problems in their health and they need to be protected. Preparing your own medical kit is also a very good idea so you will be safer and more independent if worse comes to the worse.

The weight you will be carrying in your travel is one of big issues and you need to make sure you will have the right amount of items with you while the weight will be kept to a minimum. Technology items should not be purchases while you travel because either they won’t be easily found or their price will be far too high. Exchanging items while travelling is a very common practise as not only you save money but in some cases you can really make some people happy while it will be something you can replace when you return home.

Travel gadgets are great birthday gifts as they will definitely find their place in a traveller’s rucksack but you need to make sure they are useful, otherwise you will be carrying extra weight without any reason. Without any doubt, the most popular travel gadget for the majority of the travellers is a pair of portable speakers as music will be your more loyal partner if you are a solo traveller.

Alarm clocks have not always been a necessity. For a large part of history, most people never had access to clocks, let alone alarm clocks. The first mechanical clocks in Europe, very large devices too big for homes, appeared in the 14th century, and it was not until the 17th century that the first household clocks, sometimes with alarms, came into use.

They were still relatively rare though, and it took until the late 1800s before bedside alarms really started to become popular. Those early mechanical versions of alarm clocks have evolved into the electronic devices that we use today. It was actually 1959 that the alarm clocks that bear a resemblance to what we use today were first introduced.

One significant change in recent years has been the addition of the capability to attach MP3 players to alarm clocks. With so many things that can be downloaded online and put into a MP3 player, it is now possible for people to wake up to sounds of their favorite artists and bands. Still, even with the addition of cool functions such as this, the traditional alarm clock has seen a slump in sales.

The reason lies primarily in the proliferation of cell phones in recent years. People find it more convenient to use the alarm clock function on their cell phone rather than use a traditional alarm clock, however many features that they offer. Surveys show an increasing number of people ditching their alarm clocks and using their cell phones to wake them up.

However, there is no reason to expect the alarm clock to go the way of the dinosaur any time soon. Many people want something more than just their cell phones to wake them up, and the ever-improving alarm clock technology can offer more specialized waking features. For example, people can now buy an alarm clock which records body motions throughout the night and selects the optimal time to wake the sleeper (waking in the right sleep phase is much easier).

—

For information on modern alarm clocks that make waking up as pleasant as possible, visit ‘Bose Alarm Clock‘, where you can learn about Bose alarm clocks and alarm clock features.

Almost every area of modern technology is moving forwards at an unbelievable rate, but some areas seem to have a little more pace than others. It is the areas of personal computing and entertainment technology that seem to have come on the most, and this is largely down to the increased demand for such products. Technology that helps with personal navigation has also moved on a long way. Here are 3 of the most prominent advances in the last few years.

Sat Nav. These little automobile gadgets have been around for nearly a decade, but have advanced quite a bit in recent times. They have become more usable in difficult or busy driving areas as their re-routing speed is now much faster and they can factor in things like road works and traffic accidents from live feeds. It is now a lot easier to navigation the menus and enter addresses as well using new intelligent touch-screens. You can even get them built into phones now, making them a favourite of cheats on orienteering team building days.

Travel Information. Although public transport has been operating for a great many years, getting access to the necessary dates and times of travel has never been a quick and easy job really. That all changed however when travel operators started publishing their timetables onto the world wide web for everyone to see. Furthermore, there are aggregator programs that allow you to type in a venue such as Cheltenham and they will tell you all the travel routes and times and also tell you any events going on such as Cheltenham hospitality events and festivals.

Friend and Family Location. If you have ever wanted to know where you friends and family are at every waking hour, there has never been a better time to do it. Phone companies are increasingly offering opt-in services where you can track all your contacts locations whenever and wherever they are using GPS technology. This is very useful for keep track of people at a festival or large corporate events for example, as people tend to wonder off and get lost quite a bit.

Yes that’s right, because its almost that time of year where hundreds people get into those big red suits to help kids to have a great Christmas it has been noticed that here in the UK the majority of men going for the job are of the older generation.

With all of the recent gadgets that are around these Santas are going to need a lot of training so they know what all of the kids are actually talking about when they are asking around.

Well this is where PC World has stepped in to help out all of the Santa’s. It is unsure on why PC world have been chosen for this as they seem to know nothing about the majority of the products they sell when I ask them about it instore there seems to be one guy that knows about it!

In theory this is in place to teach the santas about all of the newest gadgets that are out like the Xbox 360 and others such things. This is sill and does not need to happen at all. I do not a kid that sees Santa that knows hte exact specs od any of these things? It all seems to me like a bit of a waste of time as they could learn it themselves.

The one thing that these Santa’s are not being told is how much these items cost to replace so it is well worth looking into getting some gadget insurance or at the very least something like laptop insurance or even phone insurance or you could find a very unhappy kid come January.

Make sure that this year when you take your kid to see Santa that he is trained.

Cell (mobile) phones have been on a serious diet since their conception well over a decade ago. They were once the size of a house brick, and at one point they became as small as a match box. However, phones began to take on new more advanced roles such as Internet browsing and being MP3 players, and this led to something of a turnaround for handset sizes. Handsets such as the iphone and other ’smart’ phones did have improved styling, but are considerably larger than many of the previous generation handsets. That said, cell phones could soon be shrinking yet again.

There is no longer a need to have every one of your phone’s files and functional programs loaded onto your handset, and this is down to advances in wireless and 3G connectivity. What would happen is that information and programs would be streamed into the phone from an external source only when you request them. What this means then is that phones can be stripped down to their bare bones essentially, and they will actively adapt to suit the needs they are required for at the time.

A central information hub that is kept at home, or better yet with your network provider, would essentially act as the phone’s database. Your handset will be able to ‘login’ easily to this hub, regardless of where you are in the world, and access all the files and programs that are stored on it. You will still need a certain amount of hardware in the phone, such as a camera and other electrical components, but you will be able to save huge amounts of space where memory, processors and mini ac fans would normally be found. This means then that phones could be not much bigger than cable ties and you could even wear them as accessories such on a necklace or as a wrist-band. The phone would be liberated from its conventional state and could take any shape you desire.

Renting? You should be, because apparently more of us are doing just that as falling house prices and slack demand drags down Western civilisation. So if you are in your studio-based bedsit hovel, or a luxury five-bed pad with swimming pool, do you regret that stipulation of no children (not really), no DSS (probably not) and no pets (sob)? How many times have you thought that life would be more complete with a furry little friend from another species, only to be thwarted by the landlord/managing agent combination?

Gifts for renters pining for companionship dont get any better than an animatronic Guinea Pig.To some, he may be little more than a battery compartment with a small wig, but to many he could be a friend and companion for life or at least until the landlord comes for an inspection. Some of these cyborg rodents are really advanced with all sorts of electronic wizardry to make them truly interactive virtual pets and not just brilliant gifts for women, who as we all know have a soft spot for small furry things.

Some have sensors in the eyes ( that’s the rodents, not women of course!) so they can shuffle about the house without bumping into things, which is probably more than you could do after a few Stellas! Some are scarily real for what are essentially toys. They have different moods and if you don’t play with them they get lonely and scared and hide in a dark place.

Some react to voices and sounds and come running when you call and theres even you even have to feed some with their own special carrot. Aside from those slightly freaky, Rise of the Machines attributes, animatronic animals are the perfect rental pet – no litter, no pee or poop behind the sofa, no sawdust scattered all over the place, and easily put in a cupboard when the landlord comes to call. Oh yea, and when you go away on holiday they dont die on you either!

There are many gadgets out on the market to make your life easier when cooking in your kitchen but just how useful are they, and are they really worth all the money?

11. salt and pepper shakers in the form of Rubik’s cubes. A must have for all the retro lovers and with each cube being the exact size as the original back in 1980 you cant go wrong.

10. The plate that heats and cooks your food. The problem is it can’t cook any large items! With the long cable running down the back of it, it’s almost certain you won’t really want to eat off of it.

9. the trebuchet toaster sends the toast onto the plate without you having to touch it. This sounds like a fantastic invention for when you can’t be bothered to take out those hot bits of toast let the toaster do it for you. Although sounding brilliant there really isn’t a point as I’m sure crumpets and hot cross buns still get stuck and you still end up burning your fingers attempting to get them out

8. The energy saving juicer is at number seven! It is a lot more annoying, especially in the mornings to turn a handle to get the juice you are after. A product like this could help towards trying to save money in the credit-crunch.

7. The hand power portable washing machine is fast, green and easy option to commercial laundry equipment. The tub comes pre-assembled and only needs soap and water and you to turn the handle. Realistically this may be useful for campers or when your washing machine is broken.

6. Vegetable peeler Rotato express does all the hard work. Although made to save time, it can be tiresome trying to put to product in the right position.

5. Any Star Wars fan will love the Darth Vader toaster. This is a simply brilliant product for Star Wars fans. You can’t go wrong with a bit of Star Wars in the morning

4. The Knife block that stops contamination in the block. A great thing to have for all those people that have OCD and want to be clean but it really isn’t necessary if you do your washing up properly.

3. The Digital recipe reader is a must have for all those people who really can’t be bothered to buy books. Just pop all your recipe’s from the net straight onto the reader and you can cook top meals for hours on end without even having to open a cook book!

2. The flatshare fridge has several compartments, one for each person. Brilliant for all those arguments over who bought what food in the flat. Is there really much point in buying an expensive fridge just to stop an argument over food?

1. Toastabags are the best gadget to own on the entire list. They are so simple to use. All you need is the Toastabag, the toasted machine can be thrown in the bin¬. With the Toastabags all you need to do after you have finished is simply wipe the bag, no washing up whatsoever.

However is someone really going to actually use these items? Is it really worth the money. A lot of these gadgets are rather pointless but still deliver the cheap kicks of laughing at it failing on what it is supposed to do.

Men found an interest in boys toys ever since they started getting more disposable time, thanks to better technology ironically. Men tend to get up to mischief if they haven’t got something to keep them occupied, and gadgets do this job beautifully, although they can sometimes cause more mischief to occur. Here are 3 of the latest and greatest boys toys to hit the market, and any men reading will likely want to get their hands on them straight away.

Utility Phone. We all know that mobile (cell) phones have come on a long way since the first models and can now do pretty much any digital task under the sun. However, there is soon to be a phone released in Korea that does the job of an advanced pen knife as well. According to the makers it will include a knife, bottle opener, pen, compass, scissors and even an electric razor, making them ideal gifts for men.

Glass Cleaning Robot. Very few men enjoy doing housework or cleaning the car, which is why any gadget that will do it for them is very popular. This gravity defying robot secures itself to glass via vacuum suckers and has sensors on it that make it change direction when it runs out of glass. This means that you can leave it alone and it will clean the whole piece of glass using rotating cleaning brushes. The mini window cleaner runs on small batteries and is the size of a cell phone, so can be transported with ease. These gadgets also make great gifts for her, because lets face it, women like to be lazy sometimes as well.

2-Way Video Glasses. You have been able to get glasses that incorporate mini video screens in them for quite some time now. However, what is new to hit the shops are glasses that have screens on both the inside and outside. This comes in very handy when in a class room or a meeting when you want to watch a bit of TV without anyone knowing. You can watch The Simpsons on the screens pointing inwards and project a video of your eyes, alert and blinking to everyone on the outside world. Genius!

about taking your mobile phone with you? The first thing I would say is don’t even bother and the second is that if you are then make sure you have cell phone insurance.

Reasons

One of the main reasons that you should not be taking your mobile phone with you is because it just gets in the way of everything and does not need to be with you. If you are taking your mobile with you then you are going to call the people you miss because they are there in front of you. The thing is it is still going to be there when you get back so if you are really that desperate to use a phone just use a pay phone. This is something that is a lot cheaper than using your mobile to make the call.

Another reason why you really should not be using the phone is the roaming charges you can get from the net. This is even more so for phones such as the iPhone as they will charge you a lot of money for using the internet even if it is just a mistake.

Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. As well as this you will find that a text is going to set you back a lot too so just be warned on that one.

One of the main things that you can learn from this is that taking the phone with you is just not worth all of the hassle. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are covered.

I may sound like a very old person, but toys these days are not the standard they once were. It didn’t seem that long ago that you could keep the same toy from the age of five until you were fifteen. You could drop your wooden toy car from the top of a multi-story car park and the most damage it would receive would be a few minor scratches to the paint work. Do the same with a toy made these days and it almost turns into dust. There will be so many broken parts that even an avid model builder would have a hard time putting it back together.

Some people might suggest that today’s toys are more advanced and have more technical pieces to go wrong. This is a pretty lousy argument however as there are some toys that are just as simple these days, and yet they still fall apart. Also, think back to when got old train sets as gifts, and the intricacies involved with the small parts and mechanics. These trains seemed to be built from rock. You could lay something on the line to derail it and it even when the whole thing came off the tracks, it still stayed in one piece.

So why are these toys being made to a low standard? Well, as you might expect it comes down to money. There are still some toy makers and distributors that provide good quality products, but they are sadly in the minority these days and most companies are more concerned with getting high volume of products, for low cost and built from rubbish materials.

What to do? If you’re buying for a girl, hunt around for the best gifts for her on trusted websites, where you know you’ll get quality. When buying gifts for men you’re more advised to actually go to a shop to take a look at the build quality. Boys like to test their toys to breaking point, so finding a toy that can take a pounding is imperative
